Mounting plate comes with the “Coast Guard Certification”. You attach the mounting plate to the floor with 4 screws, then the toilet fits down over pins on the plate. Cushioning pads protect the toilet from vibration. You need a mounting plate for marine or mobile applications, so it is included with the Coast Guard Certification add on. In a house, the mounting plate is NOT needed. Because of the cushioning pads, it will feel a little “rocky” when you sit on it. You can remove the pads if you feel you really need to mount the toilet.

Mounting Plate is made of same quality, heavy duty stainless as the Incinolet. I planned to use it because the toilet will be used primarily by a person with severe balance issues. When I determined that the plate mounts to the floor but the Incinolet just sits on the vertical pegs, I did not use the plate. I expected the vertical pegs would have been threaded to put nuts on to hold toilet from tipping. The good news is, the Incinolet is stable enough that it stays in place very well.
